[WATCH] CNN Reporter Omar Jimenez & Crew Arrested & Detained On Live Television

Wednesday, in Minneapolis, a string of protests erupted in response to an arrest gone horribly wrong and the tragic death of George Floyd.

In the midst of a live report from the scene of riots and protests, officers arrested and detained Black CNN reporter Omar Jimenez, his producer, and his photojournalist early this Friday morning.

The crew was in downtown Minneapolis near where a police precinct had been set ablaze.

A clip shows Jimenez with his badge in hand and as he tried to identify himself as a reporter, an officer grips his arm before he proceeds to place him into handcuffs.

As he’s led away, you can hear Jimenez say, “We can move back to where you like. We are live on the air here…Put us back where you want us. We are getting out of your way.”

Jimenez and his crew have since been released from police custody.

It is day 3 of protests and outrage. The National Guard has been dispatched to the same place that, just weeks earlier, citizens gathered to protest and accelerate the reopening of their state amid a global pandemic. They were not faced with the same tear gas and militant force.

Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone involved in these scary times. Stay safe.
