Sundays are for the Soul: Common’s Let Love Have the Last Word Book Tour

Although a new week is upon us, Sundays are for rest, reflection, refueling and gathering yourself for the six days that lie ahead. On Sunday May 19th, the road to refuel led us to Grammy, Academy and Golden Globe Award-Winning Musician, Actor and Activist Common’s latest press tour stop at The dReam Center Church of Atlanta, for an intimate conversation and book signing.

Common’s latest book, Let Love Have the Last Word, centers on Love as a declaration, an action word and how we can enrich our lives through understanding how we express love as well as others ability to receive it. We can use this knowledge to re-shape our self-image, relationships, communities and the world.

To kick off what would no doubt be an amazing exchange of wisdom and WORD??,  between Common and Bishop William Murphy III we were treated to a sneak peek performance of Common’s brand new song “God is Light” performed with the dReam Center Choir Contagious and artist Breona Lawrence. When asked his inspiration for writing his latest book, Common recalls a late night phone call from his daughter in which she revealed her disappointment with him as a father. These words were difficult for Common to swallow and ignited an in-depth introspective analysis of how he showed love and how she received it.

Throughout the intimate conversation, Common spoke freely on his relationship with God, his journey through therapy and the importance of being intentional. “Intention is one of the greatest gifts we have because with that we can set our path. When we use that intention and really put that intention out there you can rest assure and trust in everything else,” said Common.

We can rest assured that Common’s book will encourage and challenge us to put LOVE into action and let it have the last word. If you want to grab some gems from this event for yourself, you can watch the full conversation here: Let Love! An Expression of Art, Words & Song.
