Purple Reign: Memorable Red Carpet Looks at the 71st Emmy’s

Although the Emmy’s still has a looooooong way to go in awarding and recognizing black talent for our contributions to TV, they can’t deny how our people consistently show up and shut down its red carpet each year.

And, of course, this year was no different as they served all kinds of delicious looks at Sunday’s event.

Zendaya

Sis ATE the red carpet and showed us just why she was honored with the Fashion Force Award during New York Fashion week earlier this month. Her sizzlin’ ode to Poison Ivy was evident with her custom Vera Wang, one shoulder emerald gown featuring a sheer bodice with a sweetheart neckline and hip-high slit with the perfect red tresses to match.

Rumor has it, she arrived within just minutes of the start of the show…proof that all great things are worth the wait.

Angela Bassett

Not only can she kill a role, but she kills the red carpet each and every single time. Sporting an off-the-shoulder red jumpsuit from Antonio Gimaldi’s Fall 2019 couture collection, it’s evident that auntie Angela is the reason that the Academy switched the carpet from red to purple this year.

Niecy Nash

If you got it flaunt it!

Niecy graced the carpet this year in a custom pink gown by Christian Sirano that showed off every. single. one. of her beautiful curves. Although she didn’t win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in When They See Us, her shimmering sequined dress and matching head wrap definitely earned her first place for fashion.

Billy Porter

AND THE CATEGORY IS…. Purple Carpet SLAY!

On Sunday, Porter made history as the first openly gay black man to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as ball emcee Pray Tell on FX’s POSE. In his disco-inspired custom look by Michael Kors, fierce platform sandals, and a fashion-forward cowboy hat to match his huge personality, Porter turned heads the entire night!
