Oprah Winfrey Will Deliver The Class of 2020 Commencement Speech Address Via Facebook

In 2020 the possibilities are endless! Oprah Winfrey has agreed to be the class of 2020 Commencement speaker. Facebook will host a virtual graduation ceremony featuring Oprah, Lil Nas X, and Miley Cyrus.

“This is a bittersweet time for the Class of 2020. As students head toward graduation, it’s not the day they might have imagined- no processions, no diploma handoffs, no parties,” says Facebook executive Marne Levine in a company blog post.

She continues, “they are commencing at a time of great uncertainty. But graduating is a tremendous achievement, and worth pausing to celebrate even in these circumstances. That’s why Facebook has planned a special event on the Facebook app and Instagram.”

The #Graduation2020 live stream will begin at 2 pm EST and Facebook will simulcast on both Facebook (via Facebook Watch) and Instagram (via the @instagram brand account).

Graduates will hear from college deans and school principals from across the U.S. and the live stream will create a virtual graduation hub that allows friends and families to host their own private celebrations.

It’s not the graduation they expected, but we are happy the class of 2020 will still have the opportunity to celebrate.
