We recently celebrated the life of Aretha Franklin who would’ve turned 78 on March 25. As we continue to honor her, we’re excited to announce rapper T.I. will now join the cast of Genius: Aretha, an authorized limited series about her life and legacy.
T.I. will play socially conscious, Ken Cunningham who was a fashion designer and once Aretha’s lover. He’s also the father to her youngest son, Kecalf Cunningham.
Although the show has halted production due to the coronavirus pandemic, the cast announcements are keeping fans hopeful for what’s to come. It was already confirmed that Cynthia Erivo would play Aretha and Courtney B. Vance is set to play the late singer’s father, civil rights activist Reverend C.J. Franklin.
The new series also includes newcomers, Tina Fears, and Ethan Henry along with Notorious’ Antonique Smith.
Previously scheduled to premiere this Spring, the show will now be released at a later date.
Along with Genius: Aretha, a movie starring Jennifer Hudson as the late Queen of Soul will now hit theaters in December instead of the original October release date.
