Atlanta is home to some of the most electrifying sounds, which makes perfect sense as to why the Red Bull Music Festival would bring its talents down South for the first time ever to celebrate the buzzing music scene here in the South.
Festivalgoers packed into an intimate space to see headliner Ari Lennox at The Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points – an eclectic Atlanta neighborhood that’s also known as the city’s “Hippie Hood” – for a sold-out show. The area is also home to a new, well-deserved mural of true ATLiens, Outkast, who played a huge role in the shaping of the hip-hop scene in the dirty souf.
With Lennox being from DC, it was only right that the opening act was The TCB Band, a group whose signature go-go sound is native to the capital city area. Lennox hit the stage and serenaded us with sounds from her latest album, Shea Butter Baby, taking time to note that not only was the crowd Black AF, but natural AF which the singer chimed was just the way she likes it.
Sis also served us bawdy goals and was her regular, witty self that we get to see on her hilarious IG Lives, noting that she had to stop by Target before she hit the stage.
For its very first rodeo here in the A, the Red Bull Music Festival is doing a great job of highlighting the diverse hip-hop city with a HUGE line up of performances, panelists, art exhibits and parties (we can’t forget the parties!).
The festival runs November 1st– 14th.
