Breonna Taylor was gunned down by police when a search warrant in a drug investigation went wrong. The 26-year-old EMT was asleep in her Kentucky home just after midnight when police entered the wrong home in search of their suspect.
Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officials reported the officers started shooting after Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, shot at them first. The lawsuit details that the police did not identify themselves, thus causing Walker, a licensed gun owner, to believe that someone was breaking in.
Attorney Ben Crump, who represents the family of Ahmaud Arbery and will represent the Taylor family, told “CBS This Morning” that Walker and Taylor “thought they were being burglarized.”
Breonna Taylor was struck eight times.
“Breonna loves life and she loved to help people and she loved her family. She didn’t deserve what they did to her,” says Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear released a statement regarding Breonna Taylor’s case, calling the reports “troubling.” He said, “Her family and the public at large deserve the full facts of her death” and called for state officials to review the findings of the police investigation and “ensure justice is done.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Breonna Taylor’s family and friends, another life gone way too soon.
